Directed by Andrés Baiz and produced by Eric Newman and Sofía Vergara, Griselda is a biographical crime drama streaming television miniseries from the United States. Ingrid Escajeda and Doug Miro wrote it.
Vergara plays infamous Colombian drug kingpin Griselda Blanco in the film. With six hours of content, the miniseries debuted on Netflix on January 25, 2024.
Eric Newman, Sofía Vergara, and Luis Balaguer would produce the miniseries for Latin World Entertainment. Baiz, a native of Colombia, directed every episode.
Baiz would serve as executive producer alongside Doug Miro and Carlos Bernard, members of the Narcos creative team, while Ingrid Escajeda and Miro would oversee the showrunner roles.
Griselda Plot
The plot centers on Griselda Blanco, a formidable criminal boss, and chronicles her ascent through the Miami drug trade and her quest for wealth and power. She was a sole attainer who swore to rug the treacherous business of drugs .
Although her drug addiction, paranoia, and treachery cause her to fall, and her actions kill several others, including a child. Griselda gives herself into the police to avoid cartel reprisal, but she encounters unanticipated repercussions. Even though she is incarcerated, tragedy befalls her when the majority of her children are killed.
As the show comes to a close, Griselda imagines herself and her kids enjoying a serene beach scene. The program acts as a warning against the destructive quest for dominance. In 2012, Griselda was murdered in Medellín, Colombia.
The drama show, is led by the captivating and soulful performance of Sofía Vergara, the Emmy and Golden Globe candidate, also stars other gifted performers like Alberto Guerra, Christian Tappán, Martín Rodríguez, Juliana Aiden Martinez, and Vanessa Ferlito in supporting roles.
The 1970s and 1980s era which yields the viewer’s attention was a remarkably thorough concept which was portrayed in the movie. The historic and ancient vintage times with a criminal territory ruling around and a chauvinistic female powerful candidate and her struggles are motivating and eye-catching performances.
Griselda Tv Series Filming Locations
The primary location is said to be Los Angeles County, California with a few additional scenes shot at Miami, Florida. Principal shooting began in January 2022 and was wrapped up in June of the same year.
A significant portion of “Griselda” was shot in Southern California’s Los Angeles County. Along with other communities located within the county, the county’s seat, the eponymous city, is one of the main production areas.
Many pivotal and lavish scenes were also shot across the bays of Long beach, Located at 20 37th Place in Long Beach, this exclusive estate spans 7,692 square feet and features a private pool house, spa, four car garage, basement, and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, among many other amenities which provided a spectacular backdrop for the scenes.
To record several key sequences, the production crew turns the former homosexual club into El Floridita. There are also reports that certain significant parts of “Griselda” were recorded in Redondo Beach, a coastal community. All the backdrops were perfectly designed and coordinated to set the vintage time of the 90’s and 80’s.
Another principal location was the coastal metropolis of Miami in the southern region of Florida.
Eighty-seven percent of the fifty-two reviews, with an average rating of 6.8 out of 10, are positive on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.
The verdict on the website is that “Sofía Vergara impressively disappears into the role of Griselda Blanco in this propulsive gangster saga, which plays loose with the facts but achieves genuine grit.”
With a weighted average of 19 reviews, Metacritic gave the show a score of 64 out of 100, indicating “generally favorable reviews.”
