Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.” Sanjay Leela Bhansali never fails to amaze us with his best masterpieces. Whether its Deepika Padukon starer, BAJIRAO MASTANI  OR Alia Bhatt starer, GANGUBAI KATHIAWADI Bhansali’s every masterpiece lushes with the rich and bright culture of India and its prominent queens.

His upcoming movie, Heeramandi: the Diamond Bazaar has also sparked curiosity among viewers as the movie is a multi-star studded with Manisha Koirala as Mallika Jaan, Sonakshi Sinha as Faradeen/Rehana, Richa Chadha as Lajjo, Sanjeeda Shaikh as Waheeda, Aditi Rao Hydari as Bibbo, and Sharmin Segal Mehta as Alamzeb. Fans already have huge expectations from the movie itself and its royal vintage look. 

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar series was released on Netflix on May 1 2024. The diverse and picturesque visuals  which seem to be highly rich and depicts the mughal period is what has attracted the fans. 

Some of Bollywood’s most gifted performers successfully bring to life a number of complicated characters as Bhansali, tackles the timeless themes of love and treachery.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024) Series Filming Locations

The show is set in the 1940s, during the colonial Indian independence movement against the British, and it centers mostly on the courtesans who live and operate in Lahore’s Heeramandi red-light district, where nearly all of the drama takes place.

MUMBAI, INDIA

The primary location for the movie was the second highest populated metropolitan city of India. Also known as home to Bollywood, the city is filled with different studios which attracts producers and Filmmakers around the country.

Filming for Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar Season 1 of the show kickstarter in June 2022 and went on for months in multiple locations. Most of the BHnasali’s Film are lensed in the city itself.

A team of more than seven hundred people labored for over seven months to construct a generous set at Goregaon East’s Film City, also known as Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagri.

It’s interesting to note that Bhansali apparently stewed on the idea for the enormous set, where the majority of the action in the play takes place, for more than 18 years. 

The detailing and cinematography was taken into great account as it is a signature in Bhansali movies that even a little detail is beautifully presented.

In the production studios, structures such as the mosque, grand courtyard, dance hall, public restroom, and fountain that enhance the area’s aesthetic appeal and provide a true representation of the era were built, utilizing over 60,000 wooden boards and metal frames, respectively in order to provide the scenic and jaw-dropping beauty of the 1940s vintage and ancient India.

The rumors are that the intricate designs which can be seen on the murals and walls of the palace were especially designed in Ahmedabad which almost took a span of 3 months to design the interior of the sets.

From doors to Chandeliers either they were handmade and crafted by special artisans or ordered under Bhansali’s special direction from highly expensive antique stores.

LAHORE, PAKISTAN

The Pakistani province of Punjab’s capital city of Lahore has several taped versions of “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.” Lahore, which is in northeastern Pakistan, serves as the show’s main location.

Thus, in order to preserve the authenticity of the narrative, a few establishing shots and outdoor scenes are shot on location.
