“It Series” After The Conjuring and The insidious series, another major horror series which has  left a great impact on viewers and has secured position three on the list of top 10 Horror series in the world, Stephen King’s “IT” has left the World in horrors. It follows a story of an evil and psychopathic clown who emerges from a drain and has left the town’s children in extreme horror.

The first part of the series follows the story of a young child watches the paper boat his brother created for him go down the road and eventually disappear into the sewer in the opening scene of the first film. And then something unseen—later on identified as Pennywise—emerges from the drain.

The stories of these two films revolve around a group of friends’ mission to finally destroy Pennywise, the creature that has plagued the town of Derry for decades. The most intriguing aspect of Pennywise’s tale is how limited his impact is to Derry, where he emerges from hiding every 27 years to torment the locals.

Not only does Pennywise torment the kids, but he also devours them whenever he gets the chance. After Pennywise kills Bill’s brother, the friends—Bill, Richie, Eddie, Stan, Mike, and Beverly—then go in search of Pennywise.

The second film picks up exactly 27 years after the conclusion of the first. With the exception of Mike, the majority of these pals who were present during the incident with Pennywise have already departed town.

Mike is persuaded that the beast is alive when Pennywise re-attacks the Derry residents at the start of the movie. He then makes the decision to get in touch with his friends who were present the first time.

Stanley kills himself as soon as he learns that Pennywise is back, while everyone else assembles at Derry once more. When the other friends go back to Derry, they discover that the creature they had thought to be dead has reappeared.

It (1990) Series Filming Locations

PORT HOPE, ONTARIO

King has created three fictional towns in Maine called Derry, Castle Rock, and Jerusalem’s Lot, and has set many of his stories in these places over the years and therefore it took great hard work for the crew to set up the backdrops accordingly to the three fictionals sets.

The library scenes in both movies were filmed at Port Hope Municipal Hall, and the Derry Public Library plays a significant role in them. It is revealed that Mike, who also joins this group, works at a butcher shop.

The butcher’s business was reconstructed in a store on Walton Street called Gould’s Store. Several places such as the house on 29th Neibolt Street, The Barrens, The Standpipe, and others were also filmed in this location.

King specifically chose this location as the place was a perfect outback to create the gruesome backdrops of the varmint movie.

TORONTO, CANADA

Another major location which played a pivotal role in the cinematography of the movie was the exact location of Rouge Park in Toronto’s Scarborough. Many important scenes in the film have been shot in this area.

Cinematographer Chung Chung-hoon was popularly the one who filmed the artistic scenes of the movie. His refined skills and work quality satisfied King’s creativity.  Toronto’s studios provide an exceptional space for filming the movie/series scenes.

Also when Georgie first meets the supernatural creature for the first time is somewhere around Springmount Avenue and William Street in Toronto. In this movie, the first meeting of all the buddies takes place at a Chinese restaurant. This is Mississauga, Ontario’s The Mandarin Restaurant.

Pennywise’s house was constructed in Oshawa to serve as a set for several exterior scenes in the movie, which was filmed in Pickering and Oshawa. This identical property (29th Neibolt Street, as previously indicated) also functions as the outside of the scary home that we see in the first movie.

Another notable location were the Pinewood Toronto studios which specifically held the marking of some notable scenes of the movie.

The crew chose the studios as they were located in the center city and provided a lot of amenities and relaxation to the filmmakers. Naturally, Canadian tax incentives have turned cities like Toronto and Vancouver into a destination for filmmakers looking to shoot outside of studios and on location.
