The Mire.” A prostitute and a student leader are found dead in a Polish village in the early 1980s, but the police’s handling of the case raises concerns among two journalists. Created by Michał Marczak and Jan Holoubek, ‘The Mire’ or ‘Rojst’ is a Polish crime series that revolves around a small town that is infected with corruption and dark malicious activity going around the village town square.

The two journalists sets out on a mission to find a way to stop all these deadly evil infiltrating in the society and on their journey they found some unsettling, mysterious and creepy secrets which lefts them astonished alongside some shadowy figures whose identities are yet to be discovered by them, Will they be able to solve the unbounding lives filled with mystery and heinous crimes. 

Amidst all the chaos and happenings , will they find the true culprit and save the lives of thousands of innocent victims? ‘The Mire’ operates in a morally ambiguous world, which is accentuated by a dark landscape of haunting forests, bleak swamps, and grim settlements.

Netflix’s The Mire series has surpassed with a score of 7 on IMDB ratings and garnered a lot of audience with its thriller and spine-chilling climax. The series was green-lit in March of 2019, and the final episode of the third season completed principal photography on March 18, 2023. 

The Mire Series was originally shot around the neighboring places of Poland and its suburban areas. While the production house had made a great effort to wrap the beautiful Wałbrzych which serves as a geological miracle with its esteemed and picturesque landscape views alongside the compelling background of historic importance.

The city served as a great location for the movie. The production house has truly made a great effort to film such a thrilling movie pairing with the scenic beauty of Wałbrzych.

It is known for its amazing landmarks such as the Książ Castle and scenic landscapes adorned by the Sudeten Mountains.

The Mire Series Filming Locations

Another scenic location was Katowice. Zadol , a district in Katowice was the primary location site for the movie to be precise. Located in the southern part of the country with its astonished beauty the city is famous for its industrial landscapes, which include abandoned warehouses and manufacturing facilities, contrast sharply with the city’s more wealthy districts.

Zadole’s raw, unedited atmosphere gives credibility to the series’ depiction of socio economic hardships. Despite its urban degradation, Zadole has enclaves of nature and recreational places that provide a glimmer of optimism amid the misery.

Another chivalrous location was situated in the historic region of Upper Silesia, Racibórz which served as a picturesque filming location for ‘The Mire.’ The cities’ traditional artifacts paired with its historic beauty served a great place for capturing the cinematography of the movie. 

Racibórz’s position along the Oder River provided stunning panoramas that improved the graphical storyline of the series.

Another beautiful location was Zabrze, a town situated in the Slaskie region, providing a mix of urban and rural vistas that complement the series’ depicted locations. The town’s rich and suburban heritage mixed with the uniqueness of urban neighborhoods serves a complete package for a 90’s movie.

The town’s coal mines and steel mills are remnants of its industrial past, enhancing the antiquated appeal of the show which added a great detail to show the dark and unraveling secrets which are filled in the movie.

Additionally, Zabrze was also close to other filming sites such as Katowice and Gliwice which made it an accessible filming destination for the showrunners.
