Monkey Man is the debut directorial of Dev Patel which is an action thriller drama which follows a kid’s journey who have suffered endless trauma due to his mother’s death. The kid changes from a downtrodden person trying to make it in an underground fight club to a vengeful force taking on the corrupt elites.
This position makes the child flutter through the elite and sorority circle of the rich and he derives his position within individuals residing in Yatana. As he fights for justice for himself as well as the many people who suffer under the harsh systems that are upheld by those in positions of authority, Kid begins to represent hope for the oppressed.
The kid in the film is highly inspired by the hindu demigod Lord Hanuman which is reflected on the title as well. Hindu demigod Hanuman is often said to be an incarnation of a half monkey and man.
The kid in the MONKEY MAN movie is set on a mission to marginalize and balance the evil forces challenging the societal injustice which is deriving within the country and has its source from the higher ones. The MONKEY MAN movie takes us to the slums of Yatana and the amazing nightscrapers of it while alongside showing his traumatic experiences from his past.
The MONKEY MAN (2024) Movie Filming Locations
BATAM, INDONESIA
Principal photography began in July 2020 and was carried out over nine months before being wrapped up by March 2021. Many interior shots were taken in the Indonesian City to represent the fictional city of Yatana. Part of the Riau Islands Province, Batam is situated in the Riau Archipelago, directly south of Singapore.
It is well-known for its advantageous location as a center for trade, industry, and tourism in the area. There are two locations for Infinite Studios. The first is in Singapore and has sound stages. With two large soundstages of 30,000 square feet and 14,000 square feet each, as well as a 1-hectare backlot where the sets for “Monkey Man” were constructed, the second location is in Batam.
The small island of Batam was beautifully utilized by the production team. Infinite Studios situated at Jl. Hang Lekiu No.2, Sambau, Kecamatan Nongsa were the major filming locations and this studio was utilized.
The cast and crew were quarantined as the filming took place within the covid era, therefore it made the team come up with several difficulties. While shooting the scenes, Dev Patel was injured which postponed the shooting for a few weeks, but soon he came up with some amazing and scenic shots.
MUMBAI, INDIA
The metropolitan city of the Indian Country was utilized as a perfect backdrop for the filming of the movie. The skyscraper-lined visuals were an awesome cinematic shot for the movie and while following the original plot story , the city served as a great location. The fact that the shooting took place in Asia’s largest slum Dharavi makes the shooting more interesting as the movie’s major part is shown in slums.
The city provided a great landscape view to the MONKEY MAN movie as many aerial shots and cinematic shots are lensed in the surrounding region of Bandra, Thane etc. Local markets were also utilized with great effort and added a cultural aspect to the MONKEY MAN movie. Primarily known as the bollywood city, the locations and landmarks were iconic as well.
