Land of Bad is a 2024 American action thriller film directed by William Eubank, who co-wrote the screenplay with David Frigerio. The Land of Bad movie stars famous Hollywood actors like Liam Hemsworth, Luke Hemsworth, Russell Crowe, Ricky Whittle and Milo Ventimiglia.
The story revolves around a US Army Delta Force unit assigned to rescue a CIA spy from Abu Sayyaf, assisted by US Air Force drone pilot Captain Eddie “Reaper” Grimm and Staff Sergeant Nia Branson in the southern Philippines. Sergeant JJ ”Playboy” Kinney, the team’s JTAC, appears to be the only one alive during the battle during the operation.
Sent to the extraction site, Kinney and his companion, Master Sergeant John “Sugar” Sweet, are arrested by the Abu Sayyaf after a series of incidents. Kinney and Sweet find themselves in the clutches of the Abu Sayyaf after Grimm’s drone support runs out.
When Kinney makes contact with the Grimm, he arranges to drop bombs on the enemy base; however, the connection is dropped when base personnel are busy.
The action-packed military thriller is an invigorating film with plenty of bomb blasts, firing squads and gunfire throughout the series. Making a thriller-filled film of this caliber is certainly a difficult task.
Filming was never an easy task for the production team as they had to face many challenges ranging from thrilling cover scenes to highlight drone shots. Based on thorough research, the forests of south-east Queensland, Australia, especially near the city of Gold Coast, were selected.
Land of Bad Movie Filming Locations
Filming began on September 15, 2022 and ended on November 9, 2022. Filming took nearly 42 days. The concrete forests did a commendable job of creating a scenic backdrop but also came with tough challenges of heavy downpours, floods, unstable weather etc.
AUSTRALIA
The production team made good use of the metropolitan city of the Gold Coast, filming scenes of the air base and Captain Grimm’s station in the city.
Painstakingly capturing the natural majesty of Springbrook National Park, the Tallebudgera Valley area was the exact location where the team flourished with the scenes due to the vast area they were given.

Rainforests in south-east Queensland were used to simulate the rainforests of the Philippines, while the Gold Coast was used to film a US military installation located hundreds of kilometers from the scene.
In this particular area you will also find theme parks like Dreamworld, Sea World and Wet’n’Wild. It is also home to rare birds and rainforests.
One must be surprised to learn that the real forests were originally located in Australia and not in the Philippines. The subtropical rainforests of the national park effectively replicated the climate of Southeast Asia.
The Natural Bridge is a spectacular rock formation that has been carved over millions of years by the force of a waterfall and is one of the highlights of Springbrook National Park.

The rugged peaks of Sprinbook and the coastal beaches of the Gold Coast provided ample footage for the Land of Bad film. The drone also captured some footage of Lamington National Park. Thanks to the versatile landscape and generous location incentives, the filmmakers were easily able to acquire a picturesque location.
Although Land of Bad is an American production, little is actually known about the film’s US release date. It is slated for release on June 13, 2023 in Australia, and that date will most likely include the UK as its distributor, Signature Entertainment, is British.
Although no official US date has been set, Signature Entertainment could also act as the film’s US distributor, and a potential release date would most likely come not long after the film’s Australian premiere.

The earliest the Land of Bad film could be expected in the US is later in June 2023, as Land of Bad has all the makings of a classic summer blockbuster.
