Iron Reign when translated into Spanish: Mano de hierro) is a Spanish crime thriller television series. It stars Eduard Fernández, Chino Darín, Jaime Lorente, Natalia de Molina, Sergi López, and Enric Auquer.
The plot revolves around The Manchado crime family and their drug shipments around the port of Barcelona. Joaquín Manchado (Eduard Fernández) is the gang leader and thrives in the family business. He has to maintain his supremacy over Barcelona’s sea port terminal.
The sea port is home to hundreds of tons of Cocaine which is smuggled every year by the outer world to the country. However the story twists when a large shipment goes missing and the severity in ranks falls down.
The incident then sparks row among the three major Drug gangs inside the country and now they are blood thirsty for each other. Who is guilty in this series of events? Who has plotted against the rivals and has caused this confusion?
Iron Reign is a The Mediapro Studio production for Netflix. It was written by Lluís Quílez alongside Arturo Ruiz Serrano, Daniel Corpas, and Asier Guerricaechevarría.
We can’t help but wonder if the Netflix Iron Reign series is set in the actual Spanish capital of Barcelona, given its compelling and realistic portrayal of a drug trafficking network.
Iron Reign Netflix’s Series Filming Locations
CATALONIA
Principal photography for the project began on November 24, 2022, and was carried out on location across various sites in the region of Catalonia. The authentic backdrops of the series was filmed in the acoustic city of Spain especially in the Gerona and Lleida region within Catalonia.
The production team carried out remarkable efforts throughout the filming process and the characters also portrayed an amazing performance giving a spine-chilling ordeal to the audience.
BARCELONA
Another major location for the movie was the coastal region of Barcelona which rides its authenticity to the suburban locale and has captured lavish and cinematic backdrops for the series.
The pivotal scenes for the movie and especially the port location has been filmed in this region where the Manchado family has been governing their empire.
The cosmopolitan city played a major role in giving backdrops for the movie and its visuals. Much of the scenes depict Zona Franca, the industrial south port, identifiable through its large container handling gantry cranes, an orderly jungle of containers, and a series of bulk liquid storage tanks.
Located just north of the Zona Franca, the port also has a tourism area known as Maremagnum.

There are nightclubs, a cinema, and upscale retail establishments in this neighborhood. Throughout the Iron Reign series, viewers will also be able to spot the Maremagnum, which contrasts the gritty central concrete setting of the Zona Franca with its colorful streets and neon lights.
With influences from Iberian, Roman, Visigoth, and Islamic civilizations, Barcelona is a mingling pot of cultures, the city has peak and diverse traditional and rich cultural history of modern film making activities.
GERONA
Another major location for the Iron Reign series was Gerona, located alongside river Onyar .The little city in northern Catalonia is renowned for its classically-era historical architecture, with the medieval remnants in its Old Quarter and the jewels of the Roman Força Vella fortification adorning its ancient crown.

The city’s calm and empathic visuals offers an anonymously peaceful and soothing vibe while enriching its flora and fauna for the locals.
LLEIDA
For the urban landscape visuals and high hills, the production team chose the old city, which is divided by the Segre River and bordered by the Pyrren mountain range to the north and the Iberian system to the southwest, serves as a breathtaking backdrop for the sequences from “Iron Reign” that were filmed here.
