Directed by Little Marvin, Them: The Scare introduces us to LAPD homicide detective Dawn Reeve, who deals with the gruesome death of a foster mother. With the victim’s body horribly disfigured and with shattered bones, apparently caused by a freight train, the case attracts attention and outrage.
Local authorities are under increasing pressure to acknowledge the possibility that a serial killer is on the loose in the area, but are reluctant to do so. Dawn begins to move the case, but also begins to notice strange things happening in her house. She and her family are terrorized by an unknown power, much to her dismay.
The captivating visuals of the story along with the character designs made the film a remarkable piece. Many critics also praised the film for its visuals and screenplay. The season takes us back to the 1990s and features a cast of interesting characters, one of which is Luke James’ viscerally realistic portrayal of the very unfortunate Edmund Gaines.
The background of the show makes us even more engrossed as it takes place in a volatile political environment on the verge of collapse. The gloomy atmosphere and scary sets make the audience more interested in the places where the film is located.
Them: The Scare Series Filming Locations
Filming for the Them season took place over four months and was completed by October 2022. The primary location was a picturesque location in the beautiful city of Georgia, which is also home to many scary movies such as “The Conjuring” and “Insidious”.
The production team primarily focused on shooting major parts of the film at this location.
ATLANTA, GEORGIA
In “Them: The Scare,” the diverse urban landscape of Atlanta replaces Los Angeles in the 1990s. The city’s contemporary skyline and historic architecture created the perfect setting to recreate the streets of Los Angeles in 1991 and encapsulate the nostalgic spirit of the era.
Many thrilling scenes like the 1992 riots and other key scenes are captured here. When Detective Dawn Reeve walks into the police department, the towering skyscraper seen to her right is actually a 3D rendering and not an actual structure of Los Angeles or Atlanta.

Another major location used by the film crew was the city of Hollywood, which also played an important role in filming some of the exterior and aerial shots for the film. The city is full of studios specially designed for thrilling series and movies, giving them amazing visuals and cinematography.

Production teams have a wide range of equipment and facilities at their disposal in the studios and are often amazed at the caliber of scenes the teams deliver. As a result, most studios in LA often experience overbooking crises, causing disruptions to performances.
