Imaginary is a 2024 American supernatural horror film directed and produced by Jeff Wadlow and written by Wadlow, Greg Erb, and Jason Oremland. Produced by Jason Blum through his Blumhouse Productions banner and Tower of Babble, it was released by Lionsgate on March 8, 2024.
The concept of the movie is as spooky as its title is. It delves into the fictional reality of a child’s imaginary world where they get attached to unnatural things and make unreal friends but we let it go unnotice.
We often believe that children are the purest form of nature, but when their own “imaginary friend” becomes a lurky portal for the dark souls to delve in the real world, that is where the horror takes place.

Upon Jessica’s return to her childhood home with her family, she discovers that her youngest stepdaughter Alice has developed an attachment to Chauncey, her old teddy bear.
As Chauncey and Alice play increasingly nefarious games and Alice’s behavior grows alarming, Jessica begins to realize that Chauncey is much more than the plush bear she had thought him to be all those years.
And the dark world opens under their homes when they start experiencing paranormal activities.
With Jessica’s childhood house serving as the backdrop, the horror movie examines the idea of imaginary pals and the sinister possibilities that may exist within them. One must be curious to know as to where the sinister home lies.
Imaginary Horror Movie Filming Locations
It was not an easy task for the production team to find a suitable place which gives a natural spooky aura.‘Imaginary’ was filmed in sites around New Orleans, Louisiana. Principal photography was carried out between May 18, 2023, and June 29 of the same year.
Louisiana has a great vibrant atmosphere which makes one hard to believe that the movie would have been filmed there, but the place did a great purpose by offering the ideal setting for the unsettling story of a malicious force corrupting a child’s innocence.
The city had a remarkable talent in reviving nature’s subtle transformation from good to evil. The city’s distinct fusion of contemporary appeal and old-world beauty worked nicely for the movie’s contrast of innocence and evil.
Filmmakers can find a diverse range of modern and historical residences in New Orleans, from the opulence of its famed palaces to the charming neighborhoods dotted with vibrant Creole cottages.
Another surprising reason which lurked the production team to set the city as a backdrop location was its creepy background history. New Orleans is renowned as the most haunted city in the nation due to its history of voodoo ceremonies, haunted homes, and spectral tales.
It must be surprising to one that the country in a modern time with such remarkable technology had a great embark of Black Magic in its possession. It today also serves a homeplace to many occult groups who reside somewhere in the country.

The dynamic spirit of the country infused with old legends make it a perfect place to film a cinematic horror movie. The bustling nightlife which comes with fun and chills, the pocket forests which serves an adventurous as well an equally scary atmosphere are the specialities of the country making it a perfect picturesque location.
To film shots for “Imaginary,” the crew traveled to the southern Louisiana region known as the Atchafalaya Basin. The basin offers the ideal setting for the eerie horror stories with its vast marshes, meandering bayous, and thick cypress woods.
The serene landscape of the Atchafalaya Basin , serves a great wetland destination which hides the malevolence and sinister presence of Chauncey.
This swampy area in south central Louisiana is depicted in the “Ghosts of Morgan City” episode “Pirate Island.”
