Apple TV+’s science fiction drama series “Dark Matter” is based on Blake Crouch’s eponymous 2016 novel, which is regarded as one of the best science fiction novels of the decade. The Dark Matter series centers on Jason Dessen, a professor and physicist based in Chicago who strives to succeed in both his personal and professional life.
As the family guy is strolling around Chicago one typical evening on his way home, he is abruptly taken into a different version of his life. Realizing that it will not be simple, Jason tries to travel back to his past version of reality while thinking about all the lives he could have had if he had made different decisions.
Nevertheless, he makes the decision to defy expectations and sets out on a quest to return to his family and spare them from harm at the hands of a terrible foe: himself. Joel Edgerton leads the cast of Blake Crouch, which also includes Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Oakes Fegley, and Dayo Okeniyi in interesting supporting roles.
The story’s gripping tension stems from the several facets of Jason’s life, each of which has the same locations but a different atmosphere.
Dark Matter (2024) Series Filming Locations
Principal photography for the inaugural iteration of the sci-fi thriller Dark Matter series got underway in October 2022 and was wrapped up in April 2023. Jimmi Simpson, Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Oakes Fegley, and Dayo Okeniyi joined the cast by September 2022.

Amanda Brugel would become a regular cast member in December. In establishing shots, the city’s landscape serves to depict a metropolitan setting. Views from above reveal the Prestige residential condominiums across the water, and on a clear day, the contemporary cityscape stretches out across the Michigan Lake shore.

The production team also makes use of Cinespace Chicago Film Studios’ excellent resources. One of the top studios in the Midwest, with a location at 2621 West 15th Place, provides soundstages, offices, and other areas for the production of various show sequences.
One of the shooting locations is Montrose Harbor, which is situated in Lincoln Park at 601 West Montrose Avenue, not far from the beach of the same name.
The blizzard scene of Dark Matter Season 1 was taped around Montrose Harbor. The skilled crew members constructed a set on Cricket Hill 4500 North Lakeshore Drive to shoot a sequence. The team also utilized the subsequent portions of Logan Square to film some shots.

Additionally the cast went and filmed some portions in at Damen Tavern, located at 701 North Damen Avenue in the West Town district, and The Village Tap, a well-known bar located at 2055 West on Roscoe Street in the Roscoe Village neighborhood.

A few shots of the pictorial were also captured at the neighboring city. Situated at the shore of Michigan , the location served a great purpose in enhancing the visuals of the Dark Matter Series.
